Sree Veera Hanuman Temple

  • “This place is designed as a palace for Hanuman” – Mr. Suresh, treasurer and designer of Hanuman temple
  • Lord Hanuman is the official President of the temple
  • The temple was established in 1942 at the bank of the Brickfields river but was forced to move to its present location at Jalan Scott in 1999 to make way for the monorail project.
  • Lord Hanuman is commonly known as the “monkey God”. “Hanu” refers to the mouth of the monkey and “man” means prominent.
  • Extravagant murals on the ceilings are hand-drawn by artists from India. They depict Hanuman’s life journey.
  • Hanuman’s tail is used to characterise the temple’s design.
  • The tail monument, the only one in the world, is 17 feet tall with 41 coils. It will be the tallest in South East Asia.
  • Betel leaf garlands & stone carvings are widely seen around the temple because it is one of Lord Hanuman’s favorite offerings.
  • The temple is usually crowded with devotees on Thursdays and Saturdays
  • It is said that a lorry driver once saw a monkey-looking warrior patrolling the temple at 2am.
  • Some of the rituals include chanting the mantra “rama-gem” 48 to 108 times.
  • During Mother’s Day, there is a charity drive where free sarees are given out to underprivileged Indian women.
  • Hanuman Jeyanthi is a celebration of the birth of Lord Hanuman in December. It is celebrated like any other birthday party like cake-cutting, food servings and games. No special prayers are carried out on this day except a chariot procession for Lord Hanuman.
